Soil Horizons
A layer of soil, approximately parallel to the surface, having distinct characteristics produced by soil forming processes.
Used to classify the soil and make interpretations.
Notes:
There is no set number of horizons a soil pedon can have. Horizons are split or differentiated by changes of color, texture, roots, structure, rock fragments, redoximorphic features, or for any reason the describer decides. Always remember the definition of each master horizon before deciding what to call the horizon.
